Brookeland’s Powell Commits to Arkansas-Rich Mountain Softball

BROOKELAND — Brookeland standout Paige Powell will continue her athletic career at the collegiate level after committing to play softball at the University of Arkansas-Rich Mountain. Powell’s commitment marks the next step for a multisport athlete who has represented Brookeland on both the softball field and the track. Brookeland Independent School District announced the commitment while congratulating Powell for the work and dedication that helped her earn the opportunity. “Paige has put in the work, shown the dedication and earned this opportunity to compete at the college level,” the district said in its announcement. “We are incredibly proud to see one of our Wildcats take this next step.” Powell has also established herself as one of the state’s top track and field athletes. During last year’s state competition, she earned a silver medal in the high jump and placed ninth in the long jump. Her success in both events demonstrated the athleticism that she will bring to the college softball field. High jump requires explosiveness and precise technique, while long jump tests speed, power and body control. Those abilities can translate naturally to softball through quick reactions, strong movement in the field and speed on the basepaths. Competing in multiple sports has also required Powell to balance different training schedules and expectations throughout the school year. Her accomplishments reflect the time she has devoted to improving while representing Brookeland at major competitions. Powell will now prepare to make the transition from high school athletics to college softball, where she will face a faster and more demanding level of competition. Her commitment gives Brookeland another reason to celebrate an athlete who has performed at a high level in multiple sports. It also provides younger Wildcats with an example of what can be achieved through consistent work and determination.
