Trahan Train Rolls as Buna Blanks Huntington, 48-0

BUNA — How do you stop a charging Cougar? Don’t ask Huntington, because it had no answers for the Buna rushing attack. The Trahan Train rolled through Huntington on Friday night as Buna piled up 305 rushing yards and seven offensive touchdowns in a commanding 48-0 victory. Buna improved to 3-0 under head coach Mike Trahan and has now rushed for 1,023 yards through three games. The Cougars have outscored their opponents 104-27 while averaging 344 rushing yards per game. Caleb Nevils led the scoring charge against Huntington, rushing four times for 64 yards and two touchdowns. He has amassed 344 yards and six touchdowns on only 24 carries this season, an average of more than 14 yards per attempt. Tanner Crane added 64 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, while Braxton Stimits gained 51 yards on nine attempts. Lev Rice carried five times for 44 yards, Alex Soileau contributed 38 yards and a touchdown, and Brody Moss recorded 37 yards and a score. Brody Batman added a 7-yard touchdown run. Buna hardly needed to put the ball in the air, but the Cougars made their lone completion count. Moss connected with Jaythen Fachorn for a 10-yard touchdown, giving the passing game a perfect scoring percentage on completed passes. The defense was every bit as dominant. Hayden Holden led the Cougars with four solo tackles and 10 assists. Caden Flannigan finished with two solo tackles and eight assists, while Jaythen Fachorn recorded six solo tackles and two assists. Braxton Stimits and Huck McGuire each contributed two tackles for loss. Wyatt Pelts forced a fumble, and Jackson Holmes recovered one as Buna kept Huntington off the scoreboard throughout the night. Through three games, Buna’s defense has allowed only 481 total yards, an average of just over 160 per contest. The Cougars have also intercepted six passes. The schedule will take an interstate turn Friday when South Beauregard travels from Louisiana to face Buna at 7 p.m. If the Cougars keep running the football and defending at their current pace, the visitors may find it difficult to derail the Trahan Train.
