BUNA — A dog found tangled in a tie-out near a Buna residence is receiving care after members of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and local volunteers stepped in to help. The dog was discovered at a residence off Private Road 8148 with its tie-out wrapped around one of its legs. According to the sheriff’s office, the animal appeared to be well cared for but was likely injured or frightened. The homeowner attempted to untangle the dog but was bitten during the effort, prompting authorities to ask for help locating the animal’s owner. Investigator Karli Cherry and Lt. Jason McLelland responded to the scene. Before attempting to free the dog, they stopped at Buna Animal Hospital, where staff members provided tools needed to safely cut the lead. After the dog was freed, Larry Pulliam arrived and helped load the animal into his truck. Pulliam then transported the dog to Buna Animal Hospital for care. The sheriff’s office thanked Pulliam, the responding officers and the animal hospital staff for helping the dog. Authorities initially continued searching for the dog’s owner while also seeking someone willing to foster the animal if the owner could not be located. On Sept. 11, the sheriff’s office announced that Noble Hearts Dog Rescue had agreed to take responsibility for the dog. Stephany Isaacs opened the rescue’s doors to care for the animal and help ensure it eventually finds a suitable home. Noble Hearts Dog Rescue also works to transport dogs to approved foster homes in Canada. The organization recently announced it has three Canadian foster families prepared to receive dogs but needs assistance covering transportation costs. The rescue estimates transportation expenses at $300 per dog and has set a $900 fundraising goal.
