Wildcats Show Heart Against Livingston

KIRBYVILLE — Kirbyville struggled to generate consistent offense Friday night as Livingston built an early lead and defeated the Wildcats 34-6. Livingston took control during the opening quarter, scoring 20 unanswered points before adding another touchdown in the second. The Lions carried a 27-0 advantage into halftime, leaving Kirbyville facing a steep climb after the break. The Wildcats responded with their only touchdown during the third quarter. Kendric Washington finished the scoring drive with a rushing touchdown, cutting into the Livingston lead before the Lions answered with their final score. Washington led Kirbyville’s rushing attack with 56 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Adan Pina added 50 yards on nine attempts, while quarterback Kaleb Wiggins rushed 10 times for 33 yards. As a team, Kirbyville gained 142 yards on 36 rushing attempts, averaging just under 4 yards per carry. The Wildcats found less success through the air. Wiggins completed 7 of 28 passes for 55 yards with one interception. He faced consistent pressure and struggled to establish a rhythm against Livingston’s defense. Kirbyville finished with 197 yards of total offense and 13 first downs. The Wildcats also lost a fumble, giving Livingston another opportunity to control possession. Three players recorded receptions for Kirbyville. Jordan Thomas caught three passes for a team-high 24 yards, while Jamarion Myers made three catches for 18 yards. Watson added one reception for 13 yards. Livingston finished with 316 yards of offense, including 191 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. The Lions averaged 7.6 yards per rushing attempt and added 125 passing yards. Despite the final score, several Wildcats delivered productive defensive performances. Bruce led Kirbyville with 10 tackles, including three solo stops. Pina finished with nine tackles and a tackle for loss, while C. Glenn recorded seven tackles and a pass breakup. Bryson Moss collected six tackles, one tackle for loss and a 15-yard sack. Morgan and Rosemon also recorded sacks as the Wildcats generated pressure against Livingston’s backfield. Kirbyville’s defense held Livingston scoreless during the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats could not overcome the Lions’ 27-point first half. The loss dropped Kirbyville to 0-3 after setbacks against Bridge City, Lumberton and Livingston. The Wildcats have shown flashes on both sides of the ball, but slow starts and offensive inconsistency have prevented them from putting together a complete performance.
