Scrappin’ Valley man arrested on family violence warrant

BUNA — A Scrappin’ Valley man was taken into custody Friday after a traffic stop in Buna revealed an outstanding felony warrant from Tyler County, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Morgan conducted the traffic stop Sept. 12 after reportedly observing a moving violation. The sheriff’s office did not specify the location of the stop or the nature of the alleged traffic violation. Morgan made contact with the driver, who was identified as Marvin Willey, 27, of the Scrappin’ Valley community. During the stop, Morgan requested that dispatchers conduct a routine check of Willey’s name. The check reportedly revealed that Willey had an outstanding warrant issued in Tyler County. According to the sheriff’s office, the warrant charged Willey with assault causing bodily injury to a family member with a previous conviction. The alleged offense is classified as a third-degree felony under Texas law. Willey was taken into custody on the outstanding warrant and transported to the Jasper County Jail. Authorities reported that the arrest and transportation were completed without incident. The sheriff’s office did not release details regarding the circumstances surrounding the original assault allegation, including when or where the alleged offense occurred. Information concerning Willey’s bond or his status in the Jasper County Jail was not immediately available. The case connected to the warrant will be handled by authorities in Tyler County. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office was responsible for locating Willey and executing the outstanding warrant during the Buna traffic stop.
